Gordon Strachan kicked off his reign last night in perhaps the most unwanted job in British football: the Scotland manager’s position. Certainly, on an international level, there are fewer posts in the whole of Europe that are looked upon with such derision, even ridicule and fear, these days. Nevertheless, he stepped up to the plate in his first game and delivered the most perfect result in front of his adoring Pittodrie faithful.
While a 1-0 win over a nation that regards basketball as their favourite sport might not seem the most inspiring of results at first glance (at least they turned up this time though, eh?), when we look deeper we can analyse how this is in fact just about the single most perfect result the Scotland national team could have hoped for.
